Our Patients Love us

My sleep appliance has made a tremendous difference in the quality of my sleep as well as the duration. I never wake up choking, gasping or my wife shaking me awake. It is much easier than a CPAP (which I had before). It is also safe as it is easier to clean and travel with. Not only is it helpful for me to feel more rested, my wife doesn’t have to leave our bedroom to escape the noise! Working with Dr. Stuckey is easy and painless especially due to the awesome staff helping him!

My family has been coming to Briarfield Dental for around 2 years. The office staff is very friendly and are will to listen and help in whatever way they can. However for me Dr. Stuckey has improved my over health in a way I thought could ever happen. I suffer from sleep apnea and I went through all the sleep studies and 2 different types CPAP machines. The devices did not work for me at all. Dr. Stuckey over the 2 years was talking to me on how certain dental appliances can provide relief or reduce sleep apnea issues. During this time I was very skeptical the devices would work and kept finding excuses not to try. I final decided to have Dr. Stuckey treat me a few months ago and I am extremely happy as I am sleeping much much better with almost no snoring. The biggest benefit is my wife can now sleep too and does not worry about me during the night. If anyone is still having sleep apnea issues even with CPAP machines I would highly recommend coming in a seeing Dr. Stuckey.

About 3 years ago I went for a sleep study and found out I had a mild case of sleep disorder including snoring.I was fitted by a doctor with a C-PAP machine and mask. I used this for several years. And it seemed to do the job to certain point. When I got up at night I usually didn’t put it back on. I didn’t take it with me on vacation or travel because of the extra baggage to haul. It required care and maintenance. The mask leaked and was uncomfortable. I started to check and do research on a mouth appliance that I heard about. After several months I did a free visit to check out a type of mouth appliance with Dr. Stuckey. The program was explained very clearly to me with which type of appliance would be best. The adjustment period was for several visits to make the mouth appliance work best for me. I was very satisfied with Dr. Stuckey and his staff. I use the appliance every night and it works great. the appliance has also helped with teeth grinding. I can take it with me while I travel and it requires very little maintenance. I would rate this product at A+.

I am getting much less interrupted sleep. therefore, I wake up feeling that I have gotten rest. I wake up ready to get up and get my day started. Before, I felt like I could sleep an additional two hours when I awoke. I have a lot more energy throughout the day. I am grateful that this appliance has changed my quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I snore, do I have sleep apnea?
Snoring frequently accompanies sleep apnea but it is not always an indicator of whether this sleep condition is present. However, snoring can indicate that bulky throat tissue could potentially obstruct airways – especially if patients have certain lifestyle factors that contribute to sleep apnea. Fortunately, the treatment we offer for sleep apnea and snoring is the same. By prescribing a custom oral appliance, the diameter of the airway can be widened to prevent the sounds of snoring as well as episodes of apnea. These oral appliances are soft and comfortable to wear. They work by positioning the lower jaw slightly forward so that the airway is no longer obstructed.
What causes sleep apnea?
The exact cause of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is different for each person. Anyone can develop it, regardless of age or gender. The most common risk factors include:
  • Being over age 40
  • Having a large neck (over 17 inches in men, 16 inches for women)
  • Being overweight – approximately half of OSA sufferers are overweight
  • Being male – more men than women suffer from OSA
  • Having a large tongue or small jaw
  • Enlarged tonsils and adenoids (particularly in children)
  • Using alcohol or sedatives which relax the muscles in the airway
  • Nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum or sinus and allergy problems
Does insurance cover sleep apnea treatment?
Because insurance plans vary widely, our experienced team will work with you to see if your insurance company will cover the oral appliance. If for any reason it isn’t covered, we will let you know and work with you to develop a financial plan if needed. If coverage is available for oral appliances, it will come from your medical insurance carrier. Most dental insurance companies do not cover treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Our patients tell us it is well worth the investment of their time and money to treat their sleep apnea because of the improved quality of life they experience.
What if I don’t have insurance?
We offer financing options and will work with you to find a solution that fits your needs.
